About Nerdy Chefs ?

My name is Deno. Welcome to Nerdy Chefs!

My mission is to help train 100 Million new chefs around the world. I’m teaching people how to cook like pros by using time-saving gadgets and hacks.

I am a self-trained Chef. I didn’t go to culinary school. I didn’t apprentice in Paris.

In fact, I began my culinary journey by accident much later in life than most. I made a lot of mistakes along the way. Now, cooking has become my obsession.

In 2015 at age 45, I suddenly became a single father.

I had no idea how to cook anything but toast.

In fact, during the last few years of my marriage, my monthly restaurant spending averaged between $2,500-$4,500 per month! (I wish that was a typo!)

I had good taste, but I lacked the confidence to be creative in the kitchen.

I also didn’t have time to cook and clean up doing things the old ways.

I still remember the first night I tried cooking for my son. I burnt rice in a stainless steel pot and set off the smoke alarm in our apartment building.

That wouldn’t be the last time. My neighbors always knew when our dinner was ready because the smoke alarm would be going off!

I tried scrubbing that pot for hours with little progress. Then I tried searching youtube and found a video that taught me how to clean a burnt pot in 5 minutes.

My world changed that night.

Hacks!! I need to learn these cool chef secrets.

When I started this journey my day job was running a software company.

I’m a nerd at heart.

When I use hacks and gadgets in my work life it makes my job easier.

Why not apply that to cooking?

I have a secret to getting professional quality results so quickly. I use the power of the internet to combine real culinary training, hacks from professional chefs, and useful kitchen gadgets. I now easily make amazing meals that are fast and tasty. And you can too!

Since I didn’t have time to go to cooking school, I had to learn another way.

  • Youtube tutorials
  • Online cooking classes
  • Chef communities and social pages
  • Cooking shows on Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV
  • Asking to meet chefs at restaurants
  • Finding proper kitchen tools
  • Start cooking more at home

As I researched, I realized there is tons of information online, but it was poorly organized.

Many of the sites selling stuff seemed shady and outdated. I didn’t know what I needed to learn next. I didn’t know what to buy.

I wasted a lot of time searching for knowledge and spent too much money on stuff that wasn’t of great quality.

Now, I want to take everything I’m learning and share it with you.

I didn’t want to create another recipe blog or kitchenware catalog site.

I want to create a lifestyle site for the modern home chef. A fun and trusted place for the cooking universe. A place to share and discuss the latest news and trends in food culture with like-minded people from all over the world.

Let’s help each other become better chefs.

Today, many professional chefs openly share secrets of elite culinary schools and Michelin star kitchens. Let’s organize and share those here.

We’ve also seen a variety of cool new kitchen gadgets start showing up in homes around the world.

From simple things like bread makers and indoor grills to instant pots and air fryers. And dozens of other cool time-saving cooking innovations. Let’s review the best of the best as a community.

Along the way let’s share our day-to-day cooking brags and food fails. Remember, a journey shared is more rewarding. Let’s encourage each other and have fun.

We all need to eat on a daily basis. Cooking at home is a cheaper, healthier, and more loving option than dining out.

The kitchen is the heart of the home. Cooking makes that heartbeat stronger.

Even if you’ve never made toast, we can guide you step-by-step by showing you what you need to master the culinary arts. You just have to want it and keep going.

Not every dish is going to turn out great. Most won’t in the beginning. That’s ok, just keep on learning and trying new things. That’s half the fun. Experiment!

It won’t happen overnight. But it will happen much faster if you just get started today. Every dish you make will build your skills and confidence. Soon you will be trying harder and more complex dishes. You will become a true chef.

The best part is watching people enjoy your cooking.

Once you’ve learned how to cook, you will have valuable skills to enjoy for the rest of your life. Let’s begin our culinary journey together!

Thank you for reading my story.
